Hi guys.

I'm looking at buying a new bass, but as a student i'm pretty low on money

anyway I was checking out Ebay and came across a 2nd hand precision, I'm thinking about what its worth, how much I should be looking to pay, and whats too much basically.

The seller says its roughly 10 years old and hardly been played, he also says the sound quality is as good as when it was first bought.

Its current price is £137 ($270? Roughly?)

I know its probably hard to go by my description, but I figured perhaps someone can give me a rough estimate?

Cheers :D

Not a bad price, but hardly played in 10 years could be just left outside the case, rust(no big deal), neck problems (big deal), and all sorts of little things could be bad. Where was it stored, if it was stored in a basement w/o dehumidifier could be bad, or in an attic can also be bad. Any pix? Good luck. I personally would ck it out physically than buying on Ebay.

I know its not ideal bidding on ebay, but alot of things on there are the same :D

Seems to be generating a bit of interest anyway, of the top of your head what would you reckon it would be worth?

I'm not sure, what ever it's worth to the next bidder. It's no classic y'know, plus I'm not an appraiser. If it goes beyond 200 quid($430) might as well buy a new MIM - not sure what it is in the UK pricewise, but here in the US you can get 'em for under $500. Happy bidding...I'd go to a local to try out a newer or even a new one, but I've no idea what it cost new on your side of the pond. Again, I'm assuming you're in the UK speaking in pounds v. $ :)

Another thing, the pix might not do it justice or it can hide the bad things about the bass too. I do like the white "tophat" knobs. I have 'em in black on my VM from my '87. :D

Yea I'm in the UK talking £ :D

Thing is really is price for me, Like I said I'm a student, not much money, really I was hoping to keep within the £200 backet. I know its not alot, but I can't afford to go higher really.

Onto the prices of new basses, the new Precisions are about £749 for an American Series, couldn't tell you about MIM? (Don't know what it is? )

Reason for the new bass is because about 4 years ago I got my first bass (only a starter bass) and now i've progressed alot I'm wanting something better, but obviously like I've said the budget is a problem.
Initially I was thinking of settling for a squier precision (£179) but obviously when I saw this come on Ebay I was interested.
