In my opinion- That bass is a fake Fender. The nut is the wrong type and the finish on the peghead looks to be polyurethane. More pictures would help to identify more areas that are wrong for this type of bass.

Very few if any P basses from 78- 81 had bodies made of mahogany. Most were ash or alder

I'll bet that the decal is hand painted or it was assembled by a fabricator.

These basses are getting more valuable and will always be subject to being faked for profit.

This may be a great playing bass- just don't pay for a vintage Fender and get a fraud.

Not a lot to go on here. Comparing headstock decals might be helpful
