Thanks , that is just what I am looking for . Do you think they have it in black ?
I got a black body maple neck with all black hardware .
I had very little problems on my Strat build , but this P bass builds is a little more work .
I am very old school on guitars and basses so I had to have the string through body.
thanks for the help.

Jerry - a friend of mine was also trying to locate ANY black colored replacement string-through-body bridge back in 2009. He gave up and simply had his local auto body shop take apart a chrome Gotoh bridge, powder coat it black and reassemble it so all the adjustments still worked. It only cost him $30.00 and the powder coating is nearly indestructable, so it won't show any scratches.

Thanks for the help with the build ,it's not like someone has done a book that I am aware of .
I had to use the file to make the tele knobs slide on ,but it will be most of the features I am looking for.
thanks again for the help

Hey Blue finger, I think Gotoh bridges are awesome but if you're looking for a bridge that will allow string through body ( with color choices ) you may want to try the
Hipshot 5848 FM-1 Check out this link:

I believe this bridge has come stock on some past Fender Jazz & P Basses. :)
When you purchase a bridge that works for you get it installed by a pro if you're not confident in doing the retro fit yourself.....it will save you a lot of headache.

I wanted to thank everyone for their input on the bridge . For the money I had to give up on black and go with the Gotoh String Through Bridge . This place also has the .05 capacitor . So I was able to put together a " P " bass that I could never be able to buy . The body is suppose to have paint almost a pound lighter , vintage wiring kit from StewMac , Vintage Duncans ,black screws and strap buttons with Black Wilkerson tuners . My first time to soder something like this and it work . I forgot , I taped up the neck a worked on the frets with a small file .
I noticed that the string through body is no big deal with most of the players I talk with . Any ideas on how wood does nothing to improve the sound like the different metals in the bridge , steel , brass maybe something cast .

String through can add woody tones with a really great piece of tonewood, but also can kill sustain with a less than great piece. If the body wood is not resonant you are better off top loading if you want maximum sustain. I actually am not a sustain fan. The bigger tone dud the body is then the less sustain you get. String through also precludes the use of certain strings such as Labella 760M's which specifically state they are not for body-through stringing. I've found that body through stringing probably contributes to string breakage even on sets that don't have that caution.

Dave, is that because of the severe break angle over the bridge barrel? I noticed that years ago when I first started researching mods I could do to a bass. That one required some serious drilling (for my young mind), so I shied away from that idea rather quickly. Then I looked at it a little more and noticed that SEVERE angle that some basses have for the string after it goes past the barrel. Seems like it could really separate the outer wrap rather quickly.

String through body stringing does cause a severe bend in your bass strings. Certain bass strings such as flatwounds and tape wounds are more likely to break their outer winding when used on such a bridge.

I don't hear any advantage in tone between string through basses and top bridge stringing.
I think that's why Leo Fender abandoned the string through design for basses after 1957.

i also don't hear any advantage between BA bass bridges and regular Fender bridges.

IMHO the body/neck wood combo makes the tone of the bass.
