Anyone have a suggestion as to what effect will give me more of a growl. I have a FSR MIM Precision, which I love. It has the thump but, I want to go into other places too without having to buy a Jazz.
For the record, don't go to Digitech BP80's for solutions. they are so damn noisy and limited. Before you ask I bought all new Monster cables so, that's not it.

Thanks.

Ron

Have you tried EQing you amp differently, particularly adding to the mids? I am assuming that you have roundwounds on your bass. How old are the strings? Maybe try putting on a new set. Also, where is your tone knob on the bass positioned?

So you want your P-Bass to sound like a J-Bass? What amp are you playing out of? Boosting the mids might help a little.

I've tried all the tricks. I'm seeking the "lost chord", so to speak. I prefer my Precision to anything else, it has the sweetest neck I've ever played. Besides, I like toys and gizmos.

Thanks for the advice.

I too tend to prefer P-Basses, but that hasn't stopped me from playing Jazz basses too when the mood (or music) is right.

What P-Bass(es) are you playing?

At present, a '07 MIM P_Bass, FSR, natural w/ tortiseshell pickguard, ash body.

It is sweet. I put a pick-up and bridge cover on to remind me how dumb i Was to get rid of my '67 Precision, sigh.

I don't have a problem with Jazz Basses, it's the neck on my precision that keeps me there.

Sorry to hear about losing the 67. :(

Regarding the Jazz necks, it took me a while to get used to them but now I don't mind them. You hear some players talk about them being fast but they can also feel cramped. I personally don't find any speed advantage with the Jazz neck, but I do with short scale necks.

:D Try out a Boss blues driver. This pedal gives a realy nice growl on low settings. It is inteded for guitar but works realy nice with a bass. I play alot of Cream,Hendix and so on and get a realy nice amp/svt growl out of my j-bass.
