I also swapped out the gold anodized pickguard on mine. I too have the Arctic White. I went with a black pearloid one that Fender sells. Got it at Guitar Center. Perfect fit

Noel,
I have the same bass as you do. I also wondered what the designations mean. Despite what some on this board say, my bass's headstock says "Precision Special," and a smaller sticker reads, "Deluxe Series."
According to Fender's "Product Dating" section, my bass was made in Mexico in 2002 or 2003. (I suspect those are the only two years this particular configuration was made, because not many of them seem to be around, other than the current Precision Specials with active tone controls.)
The term Precision Special, as you have surmised, means a Precision body with a Jazz neck and possibly the additional Jazz pickup. Like you, I'm unsure what "Deluxe Series" refers to, but I suspect it means gold pickguard. ha ha
In any event, I'm mighty pleased with mine.

kgerry... Very good question. I no longer have the packaging it came in as it was about 5 years ago, but here on the Fender website under accessories there is a part # 0056171000 for P-Bass pickguards. There was no picture. There may be more than one color choice.
