Hi All, Need some advice, I have just been given !! a set of Rotosound 88 Tru Bass black nylon covered strings 65, 75, 100 and 115 guage still in unopened pouch, that 115 E seems a bit on the thick side so would i need to file the nut on my P to accomodate these strings and if so then i will definitley NOT put them on, I just wonder if any other member has used these and what they think of them ? sound , longevity etc My initial idea for fitting them was that Flats are generally a lot kinder to frets and boards than rounds, Although i must admit i have not used flats (Rotosound again ! ) since ´72, and also reading on other players comments that they seem to be coming back in favour again ?... Regards Peter (Spain)

Depending upon how much lateral wear the nut on your bass has, the 115-E MAY fit as-is.

To determine that, loosen the existing 'E" string and move it off of the nut to one side. Simply lay in the 115 E and see if it falls into the channel without finger pressure. IF NOT, don't force it!! If it does NOT go into the channel on it's own, your question is answered.

The other alternative is to leave the ROTO package UNOPENED and ask your local guitar shop if they will take them as a Trade-In against a set of flats - such as the GHS M3050 45-105 series.

Probably, boss. That's a big honking E.

Really a beautiful sound! If I had a fretless (which I don't) I'd run them on it. I've tried them on a fretted bass and it really sounds rich. Feel takes a little getting used to.

If you're worried about gauge size being to large, but still want the nylon sound, Try the D'Addario ETB92 Nylon Tapewound strings. They're a good fit for most standard nut sizes.

HI All,Did a gig with these nylon flats last Sunday eve strung up on a Jazz Bass, I was completely knocked out by the sound (You were spot on Brother Dave) and the silky playing action and it was the closest i have ever got to the sound of an upright on a passive bass guitar, I am a big big fan of Brian Bromberg and to get anywhere near his sound is pure nirvana for me so i will purchase a new set and string up my trusty P with them and will most likely never play with rounds again...I suppose rounds have advantages but i´m blowed if i can think of any right now !....Peter (Andalucia Spain )
