Hey guys.. I've been doing a little window shopping looking for a pretty cheap gigging bass and came across with a Fender P/J Bass and they sell it like around $200..
also there was one Squier it has a California Series labels on them but considering the price.. it runs around $160.

Dude, get the serial number and run it, and see if it comes back legit. I know it could be a good number on a counterfit bass. Examine it closely. Does it look right? Play it. Does it sound right. How does it play/feel? Counterfits are cheap knock offs. They will look, feel, and sound cheap. :idea: Buyer Beware.

it felt a little bit thicker in the neck than most p bass I've ever played.. and they were (unfinished), I don't really fancy a maple neck but then again I've played em a lot of times and noticed that they were sort of like bare wood... the sound felt really woody.. it wasn't clear at that time coz the shop only carrier's cheap brand amplifiers..

I've heard of the Squier California Series. I do not think they are imported to the USA yet as they don't appear on the Fender or Squier website listings, which basically only show what is marketed in the USA. You don't state where you are located, but you may live in a country where the Squier California series is available.

As for the instrument pictured, does it have a country of origin label?

@brotherdave

I'm currently living in the philippines, we moved all the way from UK to Hong Kong then to Ph.. and I've stayed here for like 12 years now..
No it didn't show any label or country of origin... It just shows a Fender tag, black with yellow logo. also the only thing I hated about it, is the maple neck felt like it was unfinished... like you're holding a soft plywood..

True.. as far as I know, Fenders are never cheap... and it's weird to have a California Series on a bass with Fender Logo
