After getting a new J-Bass, I've really noticed how neck heavy my old P-Bass is. Is there some way to solve this problem? I remember seeing what seemed to be a strap button extension made from a clear plastic or plexiglass offered at one time. Do they still make this item? If so, who makes it? Other than this, I think all can do is fasten a metal plate to the body or secure the strap to the headstock like Andy Griffith ( just kidding about the metal plate.)

Hmmmm. I know the P neck is a little wider, but hardly enough to make any weight difference (at least in my experience playing both P and J basses). Maybe try and new strap? I use 3" Franklin leather straps for most of my Fenders and never have any problem with weight distribution.

The only problem I've ever had with balance was an ESP Pbass copy a friend of mine had, the neck was good but the body was so light that if felt like i was supporting the neck when I played it. I was going to buy it from him but when I tried it I didn't like the imbalance of the bass.

I do have a strap called a "Comfort Strapp" which consists of a thick foam rubber inside and a nylon outer. I could only find it at an on-line store called "Active Musician". They have a guitar and a bass version. There are 3 available lengths for bass and are 3" wide. I can't recommend these straps enough. They make the heaviest bass comfortable and the foam rubber grips the back of your shirt. This helped out some, but still when I let go of the P-bass, down she goes.
