I'm not sure of the amount made although I read somewhere about 250. I bought the Antigua Jazz and I love the neck and the tone.

Congratulations! :) Glad to hear you are enjoying your new Fender. I'd just give Fender's customer relations a call and ask them if they have production numbers available. If they don't have them at hand they can sure find out for you and then you will have an official answer.

Found this video from Bass Club Chicago with a Fender rep and the Antigua basses and states 250 piece count, but "don't quote me". Well D'uh.

Think there is another run coming. Musicians Friend is promising October ship dates on both the Antigua basses. Looks like the first one sold out. As long as they keep selling briskly there is no reason to stop doing them. Just because a special run is limited to 250 doesn't mean there won't be another run.

One reason they sound different from the Standard is for sure the different pickup. It has an Alnico pickup. You can make any Standard sound like that by doing a pickup swap to an Alnico pickup. I've personally always preferred a passive Alnico pickup to about anything else. The magic of nickle plated strings combined with Alnico on a P-Bass is possibly one of the best combos ever, and I'm especially fond of the sound of nickle plated strings with the first-generation '51 style P-Bass Alnico pickups.

If they made these or the Classic 70's P with the vintage radius neck like the MIJ 70's P I would have scooped one of each up. Shame. I just can't vibe on the modern necks. :?

So far as I know no FSR (Fender Special Run) instruments are on that list.

I think that because the run is over the item is no longer listed. I wish Fender would let you find the specs Nd other info on discontinued products.

So I posted earlier in this thread about wishing how this bass and the classic 70's P were 7.25 radius instead of the modern radius, and how now that I'm in a hard rock band again I would be selling my 51RI most likely.

Well a few weekends ago I had the pleasure of playing a Classic 70's P and I have to say it stood up to every great thing I remember about my vintage 78. (except it didn't weigh almost 14lbs!) This leads me to believe that it's not the 9.5 radius that I hate, but medium jumbo frets. Who knew?

Unfortunately the one I played wasn't in Oly White so I passed until I can order one from a local shop. HOWEVER, on Black Friday I noticed that MF had an antigua P "gently used" and I noticed that the Antigua has the same neck specs as the 70s P. The price had originally been 600 for the used bass, but they dropped it to 560 on BF.

So I said what the hell and ordered it. I have to echo Aceyboys statements. This bass is straight up killer. Just like the Classic 70's the neck is to die for. The bass has a very mean and growly tone, made even that much more so by the fact that I run Dean Markley Skullbusters (Jerry Only sig strings) on my split coils. Turns out the "small dents" they mentioned that got me 200 dollars off are three tiny dimples on the top side of the bass at where the forearm contour starts. Like the tips of 3 finishing nails were touched to the paint when it was still wet. That's it. I got two hundred bucks off for that?! Crazy!

She's all set up and ready to gig tonight! Can't wait. Once tax returns roll around and I scoop up the 70s in Oly White my stable will be complete. Thanks to Aceysboy for the good review that led to me taking a gamble on this. This bass is worth every penny and then some! I'm excited enough I might start pogoing while playing tonight!

Here's a pic in her new home...
