A relative left this bass to me and have played it off and on over the years. All I have been able to find out about it is its mfr date from the SN. I've looked in a couple guitar "blue books" and nothing ever seems to quite match. I was hoping somebody might be able to tell me more. Here is a link to some pics. Thanks in advance.

Never mind the link, I misread what you asked. If value is what you're looking for, try checking craig's or even Ebay to see what similar model goes for sale. You get more true price that way. Good luck...maybe BrotherDave would chime in to give you some insight.

This is an incomplete 1995 model year Fender Made In Mexico Precison Bass Special. These are sometimes referred to as FENDER COWPOKE BASSES as they had sort of a country/Southwestern look thanks to the amoeba shaped pickguard. It is missing the pickguard. With the pickguard it would look something like this:

Sometimes these said "PRECISION BASS SPECIAL" on the headstock with a smaller "DELUXE SERIES" decal. Sometimes they just had a generic "PRECISION BASS" decal.

These sell for a range of $400 to $550 around here if in playable shape. This example, being incomplete, would be worth much less than that. The pickguards are hard to come by so you'd have to order a custom made one and the owner would also want to make a control cavity cover for the back. That would be at least $100 worth of work. And I don't even know if the electronics work or not. As pictured if someone offers $300 for it I'd take it for sure. I might take $200 actually. Of course values here and values there could be completely different. I'm in the southeastern USA. It is worth replacing the missing parts if the electronics are 100% functional if someone wants a Cowpoke.

Thank you so much for the info. It's too bad I never had the pickguard but otherwise the bass is in excellent working condition, electronics and otherwise.
