Firstly Heeellllllooooo
I have come to the conclusion that my soul needs a P and it's down to one of these two with flats to give me some old School joy.
My question is, in YOUR opinion is the 50's worth the extra £?
As far as I can see the differences are, Pups, neck profile, gig bag and IF talk is to be believed an improved QC are the differences, have I missed any?
Anyone owned both that can give me a real world opinion?
Cheers
M
PS the Dirnt P Bass would also have featured but Fender UK are out of stock.

Without a doubt worth the extra money. The classic series 50's P bass is without a doubt the best "bang for your buck" Fender puts out. Especially if you are chasing old school with flats.

The Classic 50's P bass that I have is excellent. It's the same bass as a Roadworn and I think Roadworn basses by Fender are really nice- hence I love my Classic 50's also as well in conjunction with the RdWrn most excellent P of bass. Yes. Buy one I say mate.

I played a Dirt and it was too heavy and bulky and flubby sounding . "Flubby" as in somewhere between mud and not a lot of definition I guess.

Thanks guys, backs up my initial thoughts. My only count against the 50's was the fret board being maple (prefer ebony or rosewood) but frankly I love everything else so don't think this will be an issue!

Nothing wrong as such, I just prefer the feel of the others more

Well the backs of the necks are all maple wether rosewood or maple fretboard. Sorry I never noticed much difference other than a slight difference in sound between RW and Mpl. The nice sound of the Classic and the Roadworn P -- to me has to do with the Mpl. I've always like maple for a P . Hope you get a great bass.

That's what color mine is. I thought I read they discontinued that color but knowing Fender they prob started it back up again.

I love my Classic '50s P. As noted above, THE bang-for-the-buck P. I just gigged mine for the gazillionth time since I got it new in '07. Quarter Pound pickup and TI Jazz Flats with a Fender Vintage Tweed case. It gives my AV '57 a serious run for its money, and I have grown to love the Ensenada version of Fiesta Red.

Yeah - they are nice basses-- the only thing one may want to do is replace the pickups. I don't know what it is but I have never been happy with the pickups from Mexico. I don't know if it's the wire gauge or magnets (probably) or what. But most often pickups are replaced first in any bass I think. I wouldn't let that keep me from getting a Classic 50's though or a Roadworn P. They are exceptional if you are familiar with Mex basses over the years from the mid to late nineties up until now.

I swapped the pups in my Precisiln for SPB-3's, stock pups sucked. My Jazz pups are great though, with the other mods on it, I suspect that they were swapped too. (I got it used) In my hurry to swap out tje pickguard i reall didn't bother to look that close to see if the were. No indication on the tops.

One of the features I prefer on the Classic '50s (and the Classic '51 and the American Vintage '57, all of which I own) are the small frets. I can do long slides into a note almost like a fretless. The modern "medium jumbo" frets feel like speed bumps to me now, so much that my only other bass is a fretless.

To me the skinny frets give the bass a better more wood tone. I hope that makes sense. Like I said before the only thing I changed were pickups. Old Dimarzios are my favorite and they make both my Classic and Roadworn sing.
