"the Roadworn basses are top notch"- I agree 1oo%. I was surprised when I bought my slightly used but mint relic Precision RdWrn. I instantly started gigging with it and did around 50 gigs before I stopped. I only stopped using it because I quit the headache (band). I DID however slap a vintage Dimarzio Model P in that hamster and away I went. It severely reminds me of actual old basses in sound, construction and playability. I love it. It's a keeper for real.

Personally I don't like so much the Pistols' music; sounds like a crap into my ears. But I appreciate Glen's and Sid's basslines though.

As for amplification, I'd plug that baby into a silverface Bassman 135 head with a pair of 2x15 cabs.

hah, I used to run my old 78 through a 74 Bassman 100 on top of two Fender Pro 115s. The last punk band I played in made me realize I was too old for it. However, here's a vid of one of our gigs. I think I was running through my SWR 550X and the two 115s for this one. Ummm...the language might offend somepeople...sooo ...

As far as the Pistol's music, Glenn wrote most of it, and just like Dee Dee Ramone, most of the progressions are solid pop tunes where both bands are concerned. Just not the most finely crafted of musicianship. Really good stuff, though, imo. Same goes for a lot of the older bands, the early Misfits work was great, too.

You had pretty the same equipment as Glen: '74 Bassman 100 piggyback head = '78 P!

I say pretty because Glen used his Bassman 100 with a matching 4x10 cab as opposed to the two Pro 115s you've had.

I prefer the 135 because of the addition of a 3-band EQ on the Bass channel. The 100s had only a 2-band EQ as opposed to the 3-band EQ on the Normal channel.

The midrange pot makes the Bass channel a bit more versatile.

Some players dislike the boost feature on the master volume knob; they say the boost make the amp sound like a crap.

I loved his P tone, as well as the tone Sid got out of his. At least when he was sober enough to be turned on. I miss my 78, but I don't miss the weight. The damn thing weighed 13.5lbs. Cut through the mix, and pushed the band like a beast, though.

Those days are behind me, I suppose. I'll leave that to the younger crew now. It's weird, though. The younger guys don't seem to chase that old school tone much. You get a couple of guys here and there, but for the most part they have a very "new school" west coast style and tone.

I don't listen to much of what passes for punk now days. I think the bassist from Against Me! has a pretty killer tone, but he's the only one who really ever stood out among newer bands as someone who "got" where it came from.

Our goal with that band was to sound like something you'd have stumbled onto on the Bowery in NYC back in the day. Just good nasty in your face punk. You don't hear much of that anymore. Every now and then I'll go bust out some of my old vinyl and listen to the classics on a Saturday afternoon when I'm working on my gear or something.

I guess I'm just getting old. :?
