I bought one 2 weeks ago online without playing one first. I’m happy to say that this bass is AWESOME!

The SPB-3 pickup and ash body result in great tone. The Badass II bridge gives great sustain (I had never before played a bass with one installed. I was pleasantly surprised).

The candy apple red color is, um, delicious. Fender wanted to duplicate the heavy wear of Nate’s ’71, but in keeping with his wishes, the bass is slightly distressed to give the look of a bass that is not fresh out of the factory. In reality, the body has random chips and dings in the finish (I suspect they all have identical chips) and the hardware is slightly tarnished. I thought the effect wasn’t noticeable, but when I placed it next to my 3-year old poly-finish 60’s Jazz Bass the effect was notable and quite good looking. What’s nice is the lacquer finish (is that the reason it was MIM?) will age and wear and this will be the first bass I will not baby. I look forward to road wearing it myself.

There’s been a lot of discussion about the slim neck profile. I don’t know if I can shed any light on it; I haven’t played many Precisions. It’s not as thin as my Jazz. But it is thin front to back and not very wide at the nut. It’s comfortable and plays well.

Overall: killer tone, good looks and comfortable neck.
