I'm liking those specs! Not sure if I'd like the nut width as it's thinner then a B neck, but the fact that it's got a vintage radius is really nice! Great looking bass, too! Too bad there's not a maple version! I know, I'm too hard to please!

The BAII doesn't bother me a bit. My band's sound is evolving into harder territory with the replacement of our drummer and addition of a second guitar. I was just thinking I may have to bite the bullet on a 70's RI, Roger Waters or Antigua FSR and suck up the fact that they have the modern radius. This bass, depending on the price point, may allow me to get everything I need in one bass. Though, there's no way I'll play a funky neckwidth without trying it first.

Brotherdave, is this closer to an A width P neck? I know it's not much smaller then a B width. Might be interesting to say the least!

Nut width is 1.615 instead of the more commonly seen 1.625. They call it a "SLIM C" neck on the Nate model, but I suppose the "C" here is referring to the neckback shape, not the width. The neck is shallower with the vintage radius which makes thinner necks possible. So instead of a "C" shaped neck think of it as a "c" shaped neck. I think this neck shape was actually made briefly in 1971 and by '72 they reverted to the old "C". Not all players liked the thinner neck.

Good features. I had a feeling this was going to be a good one. It is gorgeous for sure. Doesn't scream for immediate mods or upgrades either!

Love the Candy Apple Red....stunning ! I don't mind the rosewood neck on this bass I'd really like to check this bass out when my local music store gets one ......the specs on the neck intrigue me ... the BADASS II brigde & Seymour Duncan SPB 3 quarter pound pickups are a nice touch......all in all a nice package ......I hear street price will be $899.00

Great info as always! As I prefer the beefier neck on my 51RI to thin necks the "thin C" definitely will not be something I like I imagine. On top of that, I find the B width to be perfect, The C width workable, and the J bass' A width to be too narrow for me. Thanks! Shame, but it doesn't look like this will work for me either. Sigh, Fender really annoys me with refusing to put out an accurately spec'd 70's RI Precision. :?

The Steve Harrirris P-Bass is an acurate 70's RI. The nut on the neck is 1,75" & the fretboard radius is 7.25" with 20 medium jumbo frets. the neck & fretboard are one piece Maple.

No I'm not kidding you, ...my post was intended for King of Pain who wants a 70's RI P Bass with a thicker neck & the Steve Harris P-Bass has a neck that he may prefer as he's not crazy about the spec's on the Nate Mendel model, The Steve Harris model replicates his original mid 70's bass.........it was a suggestion.

No problem, I usually use the quote feature like i'm doing right now but I didn't because I'm having computer issues with the computer at my house.......It wouldn't let me use the quote feature......anyway I think the Nate Mendel Bass is a beautiful instrument.....& being that I play more Jazz basses than I do P Basses ...I thinks the spec's of the neck on this bass are nice.

Not really. A 78 Precision has a B width neck. 1.625 width. With a vintage radius. The Harris has the same specs as a 60's neck. (which likely carried over into the early 70s) Modern P necks, and the current "70's RIs" have the B width, but the 9.5 radius. The only B width neck with a vintage radius Fender offers are on first generation P RIs like my 51, and the Sting. So you can't get a split coil P with a correctly spec'd late 70's neck. Atleast in the states. The CIJ PB70 is a correct RI.

Bumping this thread - I'm having serious GAS for this bass and I'm hoping to get honest feedback from anyone who owns or had played the Nate Mendel P-Bass.

I'm interested in the neck - a lot has been written about the thin profile neck. But looking at the specs, it's only 1 mm thinner at the nut. Is that even perceptable?

Also want your opinion on the overall tone with the SPB-3 Quarter Pounder.
Thanks

Neither of the 3 closest GC's have had one when I've been in. I try to go monthly. Neither at the local Mom and Pop but they barely keep Standards around.

I have used the SD pickup on several instruments. It is a sort of a scooped tone with more highs, less mids and touch sensitivity. If you are scooping the mids you won't have to scoop quite as much. Good pickup for both fingerstyle with the tone cranked up or picking with the tone cracked a smidge. Hot output. Easy to setup as a regular pickups.

Hopeful to find one to try out. I don't like Leo Quan Miracle Wonder Bridges as a rule, but on this instrument with that pickup it makes sense. The SPD3 and the Wonder Bridge are the two most popular hard rocker mods. It is pre-modded for you. The catch is you shouldn't change anything but strings on an Artist bass or it becomes something else.

I have played the Nate Mendel Precision bass and I think that it is a very good recreation of a good 70's Precision bass. There is one at my local Guitar Center.

I like the finish and the pickup strength. I prefer a standard Fender bridge but this bass comes with a BAdA*ss bridge installed. I didn't know who Nate Mendel was but he sounds like a nice guy. I really don't care about the signature aspect of this bass i just find it interesting because I just built a 1971 Precision bass and I love to compare it to the real thing.

I thought that it sounded great.

Try one if you can find one and you may or may not be impressed.
