Here's some cool video shot of Fender's Blacktop Jazz with twin split p-bass p'ups, and the Precision version with twin "Blacktop" humbuckers. Interesting dicotomy. Both basses appear to be played through a Fender Rumble combo.

Very interesting basses for $740 full retail price. They both sound pretty damn good in the video. I think it's amusing that the Jazz version has twin split p-bass p'ups while the Precision has the dual humbuckers. I guess that's Fender's version of irony. 8)

Nice. The Blacktop P reminds me a bit of the old Big Block P model. Which were extremely nice basses.

Ran across this video on Fender Vision. Not a Precision, but damn those humbuckers do sound nice! Reverse Jag "Pawn Shop" Bass

http://www.fender.com/video?video=_-R1pMp7iwg&playlist=B7ADF48A12E253E6

They DO have different names: Blacktop Humbuckers vs Pawn Shop Humbuckers. The configuration and number of pole pieces is different. Hmmmm....I wonder if that's the only difference?

  Sure wish they made a Blacktop Precision in lefty! I'd love one. :)

Just got off the phone with 'Mike' at Fender's Customer Service.

Here's the skinny on the humbuckers.

Blacktops are 'poled' in pairs like Jazz p'ups. 16 pole pieces per p'up. They were designed for a full; round, warm tone. And from what I've heard, they do deliver.

Pawn Shops have big fat pole pieces - 8 per p'up. They are over-wound for a hotter output. Mike says they are the hottest bass pick-ups from Fender. Click on the Fender Vision link above and listen for yourself. Pretty damn hot sounding bass.

Very interesting bass and tone options coming from Fender and all in the standard Jazz/Precision price range. Lots of good sounding value priced choices!

FENDER RULES!

Pawnshop humbuckers are more Musicman-lookalike.

Blacktop HBs are designed by Bill Lawrence. These doubled-up Jazz Bass pickups are the same humbuckers Fender used on the Chinese-made Modern Player Jazz and other basses (Big Block, Roscoe Beck, pre-2010 American Deluxe Precisions).

I have one of those huge J-buckers, as I call em, in an old beater bass I got to start my bassing. Damn if those aren't the biggest things I've ever heard.

I have the Blacktop Precision and due to the hot humbucker pickups I am able to get many great tones from his bass. I think the neck is extremely playable as well. Amazing value for the price.
