Has anyone here ever put these in their Precision?

http://www.dimarzio.com/pickups/bass/standard-bass/split-p

If so, how do you like them?

Hmm, I've only tried the Model Ps, which are a bit hotter so they give a lot of punch. I like 'em.

Unfortunately I can't say I've tried the Split Ps. Maybe... someday?

I can't give much "modern" info, but back in '78 or '79 I put some in my '75 P-bass. I gigged with this as my main bass for 10 or 12 years. I still own it today, still have the Dimarzio's and it still sounds pretty good to me.
Plenty of bottom end, but not muddy. Good punch as well.
Maybe this info will help you.

The Split P came out in '92 according to the link. The twin rail design rather than pole pieces intrigues me. DiMarzio claims hotter output plus a wider frequency response on both the high and low ends.

20 years of production so they must sell enough of them to keep on making them. I've just never seen or heard a pair in use on a Precision or any other bass for that matter.

I think Dimarzios are great pickups and if you don't believe me just ask me.

I talked to my guy down at the shop and we discussed the attributes of having the rails especially on Dimarzio P bass pick ups. If you are familiar with the great old late 70's Model P bass pickups from Dimarzio you know they are really the best ones to have. Only the magnetic field of the old ones is limited to a smaller space than the rail and if the pole piece is not directly under the string and lined up -- then you are losing some of the volume of the pickup. You can test this if you have an old Dimarzio and the pole is not directly under the string-- just do a "smear" ( fret the string, strike the string and bend it up) to where the string is directly over the pole and notice the increase in volume. We theorized that this will not happen with the rail because the magnetic field is turned long- wize and there will be no drop off of volume no matter where the string lines up over the pickup. At the time of our discussion we believed we were really smart to figure that out.
I have no reason to buy the rails yet but if and when I do build or get another bass that I want to mod AND if it's a P bass you better believe I'll buy the split rails for it. I'd have to because I need to believe I'm smart. I'm pretty insecure about that.

Yeah! You got it stroker vance! A good friend of mine (going on 35 years) that also happens to ba an excellent guitarist explained rails (rails were a new advanced design at the time) to me in a simular fashion. When you bend the strings playing lead the volume doesn't fall off; and is more even and consistant. He also said rails were better for slide work.

For us Precision bass players rails should mean VERY even string volume and in the case of DiMarzio's Split P s wider and more even tonal range.

Are there any other rails for Precisions? I've not seen any, and I've never seen any for Jazz basses either. Hmmm...couriouser and couriouser...

I think maybe if they had rails for a jazz bass they would be humbuckers and would have to have 4 rails in two sections to work. Maybe all that is the reason they wouldn't work for a Jazz pickup. Just thinking..........

I don't recall seeing other rails for a P bass but chances are they may be out there.

As I sad earlier, someone with knowledge and experience would give you all the answers. Stroker was the man I was thinking about. He has a world of experience.

I have had those DP-127 'tracks' installed in my P-Bass for 6 months and they are what I knew that they would be... heavy low end with tons of output.

I have the DiMarzio DP-122's on my Cort Vintage Series 690 and they gave the Cort a new personality... almost the same as a stock Fender P- Bass, but with more tone range without having to change the tone capacitor.
