The manual that came with my Standard 60th Anniversary P-Bass lists two different truss rod types: the standard and Bi-Flex. Is there a way to find out which basses have the different types of truss rods(before buying or making adjustments)?

The manual is also confusing IMO as to what each type can do:

Standard Truss Rod:
"The standard truss rod can counteract a neck that is too concave, by compensating for excessive string tension."

Bi-Flex Truss Rod:
"Unlike standard truss rods, which can only correct a neck that is too concave (underbow), the bi-flex truss can pull the neck in either direction."

Yet both have this as part of the adjustment instructions:

"If the neck is too concave, turn the truss rod nut clockwise. If it is too straight or convex, turn the truss rod nut counterclockwise."

Also, the manual could confuse people who don't know the difference between concave and convex. Especially in the Bi-Flex description by having "underbow" wrongly put as a description of a neck that is too concave. Has this been changed in recent manuals?

I would assume that the bass would have a "standard truss rod". A "bi-flex truss rod" would be like a unique feature, such as the S-1 switch or graphite reinforced neck, located on the specs page of guitars and basses. You could contact Fender directly to get a definite answer.

Edit: I did find the "Bi-flex truss rod" here under unique features.

Yeah, I think mine has the standard truss rod.

That is probably what I'll do if I really need to know. The truss rod works fine and there are no issues, so it's more a matter of being curious.
