Cool, looks identical to mine, except for the 20th fret. Did it come that way or is that a sticker you added later?

I wasn't quite sure before, but that sticker cemented that you are a Maiden fan.

Apparently one of two things happened. 1. It never had the Japan sticker, an oversight or whatever. 2. It had the decal and someone removed it. Only MIJ or CIJ Fender instruments have ever had that serial placement.

You are correct in that it should have had a "MADE IN JAPAN" sticker with the "E" serial and 6 digits. "Crafted In Japan" Fender instruments have never had an "E" prefix yet. That particular serial could be an 84 to 87 model year instrument. Typically that would mean it was serialized between July 1, 1984 and June 30, 1987 but serials are known to be somewhat unreliable. However in the absence of any other hallmark serials are often all you have to go on. Fortunately you have a clear neck date which puts it in the 85 model year. 12-16-85. So it is more likely an 85 model than an 86.

My Precision Elite II that was made in 1983 and is definitely one made at the Fullerton plant has an E before its serial number on the headstock. Which, of course, reinforces what brotherdave has said.
