Hi, I bought this from Gruhn Guitars in the mid-80's.. I am trying to figure out the year. It does not have any numbers on it. There is a signature or something written where the neck and the body connect (when you take the neck off it is written on the body). Thanks

Tks, cool site! The only other number on the pod is a, 1 (space) 3, on the side of the pod. Will try to post a picture of the pod.

If you are sure there are any other number I'm afraid we can't date your Bass by pot number.

Yes that is all. I may take one out to see if there maybe one on the side against the pick guard... I guess I will contact Gruhn Guitars, I doubt if they save their sales invoices that far back, but will check. They offer an appraisal service too... Thanks again.

There should be a serial on the neck plate. The neckplate at the least may not be original, or at worst it could be a parts bass. The pot date code you are looking for would either start 137 or 304. Those are the first three numbers in the pot date codes for the original pots in all Fender passive instruments ever made. If you don't find those codes the pots are not original either. Fender has never sold an instrument with no serial on it at all, even custom one-offs have serials. I'm very suspicious of everything as it is in my nature when it comes to vintage Fenders. That makes two strange things here, incorrect pot codes and no serial. Otherwise it looks vintage, but without the correct hallmarks I am afraid to quote any value or even guess a year.

Hey All, I was removing the pickups (someone a picture) and found a date, written on the body.

Any thoughts?

No serial #? Pots don't look right. Kind of looks like some Fender parts and kind of pieced together-- prob not all original. Of course one just never knows till one knows--right? Need better close up pics.
