FYI, I just pruchased a new Fender Pro Series Precision/Jazz Bass Guitar Hardshell Case ( Fender Product# 0996175306 Pro Series P/J Bass Case Black) from Music Zoo and although it should fit a P or J Bass, It clearly would not fit a P or J bass with Fender Straplocks (with or without a strap attached). My J Bass didn't look like it would fit even without the straplocks. I appreciate that the dealer I purchased it from doesn't have a problem with me returning it, but I'm hit with a $27.00 shipping bill to send it back. I have a Fender Custom Shop Jazz Bass & Fender G&G Case, a Fender FSR P Bass with the TSA Hardshell Case and they both fit perfectly even with straplocks. I have 2 new Fender Bass' that I need cases for & this Fender Pro Series Precision/Jazz Bass Guitar Hardshell Case clearly didn't work. Not what I would have expected from Fender products. Just be aware & hope nobody else runs ito this problem.

Exact same problem for me.
Precision can get in but not the jazz bass.
The dealer won't pay for shipping fees. Very very disappointed by Fender on that one...

Fender has previously used different cases for the P and J. The stock case today (OEM supplier SKB) shipping with the USA instruments works ok for both. However if buying the Tolex G&G made vintage type versions seek out the Jazz bass case. The dedicated J cases are still around. I just checked.

I recently purchased a Fender Pro Series Bass Case (0996175306) for my 2006-2007 MIM Standard Jazz Bass and it does not fit. The Jazz Bass is a different shape. The Jazz Bass body is longer than the space in the case. This case is made in Viet Nam and the construction is not impressive. I have contacted the seller on Ebay to return it.

The seller "buymusicgear" sent me a UPS label for the return plus provided me a complete refund with apologies. This did work out; but, you best believe I would have no problem buying from him in the future. I am now seeking a dedicated Jazz Bass case.

After reading how some people say the case works and others are like me, I am left wondering if the cases made in other countries are smaller or whether the MIA, MIM, MIJ etc are different size bodies. My bass missed fitting by a good 3/4" to 1".

If you haven't purchased a case yet, check out my review of the Gator GPE case; http://www.fender.com/community/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=81015
