My next P will be a red one. Just curious what the P Bass lover prefer....Candy Apple Red or Dakota Red? Not interested in Fiesta Red or Candy Cola. I want a color that is really red. Plus might not be buying a new bass.

Mt std is finished in CAR. Freaking LOVE it! Sadly going to have to give it up in a couple of months, getting a Steve Harris Sig and the Admiral is making keep the herd small. I do love the Hot Rod like color of the candy apple red.

Candy Apple Red was Leo Fender's favorite colors. I agree. It is an amazing color.

So which bass are you going to get?? The Standard P-Bass Candy Apple red with white pickguard or the American Special Candy Apple Red with black pickguard & geasebucket feature or ..........The American Standard Candy Cola (hey it's close to Candy Apple)
with the string through body High mass bridge, 60's customshop pickups, ultra light tuners & white pickguard........hmmm so many choices :) decisions decisions

It is true. It is also the only Leo era Fender SOLID "Custom Color" that was not taken from a preexisting automotive color.

After Fender introduced Candy Apple Red on instruments, then it BECAME a popular custom car color in the custom car community. Leo was said to have been awed at seeing the Fender developed color treatment on custom cars. So far as I know this is the one and only time the color chain went from guitar to car instead of the other way around.

Well, I am not looking at any of these. I am a sucker for vintage guitars. I have a few MIMs but most of my basses are pre-1975. I am considering a fairly clean 1972. The early 70's maple necks are so sweet. There are a few maple neck red Ps from the 70's out there. I will post a photo of my 6 vintage basses once I get this red one. I have a white, a black, a lake placid blue, a firemist silver, & a firemist gold. all 1966 thu 1972. Now add the red one!
