I just bought one used 57 AV Precision bass 1982 made in Fullerton.

This body has weird bump area (red marked)

IS this kinda collectible shape ? or just one of error ?

I don't think this is original hardcase for reissue, but looks so old, too. I have seen some cases like this during 80s. When is the period on this case ?

The embeded Fender logos are on Both side, Top and Bottom.

Not sure about the bump. The case was widely used in the '80s. My '89 MIJ came with that case. Mine is a little bit more beaten up than that tho - the case I meant. That's why you have a case tho, so the instrument stays solid while the case takes the beating. Did you buy this on line or at a music store/local purchase. If so, why not ask the person selling what the bump is about? Maybe brotherdave can chime in on the bump. Good luck.

The Fullerton Reissues are to me without a doubt the finest and most collectible CBS era instruments and I'd rather have one than a real 1965 model. I can not for the life of me fathom this bump getting past preliminary fitting much less final inspection! But obviously either it did get past every inspection or it is the result of a repair and refinishing or just a sloppy refinishing with no repair involved. It could simply be a glob of paint.

I really don't think that bump would ever have gotten past the "V" series team at Fullerton who were quite a select group. Multiple workers would have had to sign off on it. Even if by some colossal aberration it managed to get out (which I would have a great deal of difficulty accepting) the dealer that received it would have sent it back.

The Vintage team was a collection of the most skilled hands that were separated from regular production line workers to run their own series and they were the prototype of what we now know as the Fender Custom Shop. After regular production ceased at Fullerton the Vintage team kept working there on the Vintage series while regular production shifted to Japan and the Corona facility was fitted.

If this bump got past the Vintage team I would be more surprised than I'd be if Publishers Clearinghouse knocked on my door with balloons and a bouquet of roses...but I suppose anything is possible. It is far more likely that this instrument had a break or crack in the body and this bump is the result of a repair/refinish or that it was just a sloppy refinish and the bump is caused by a glob of overspray.

Regarding the case, I think most of the Fullerton 1982 Reissues shipped in a tweed case. The giant imprinted USA logo cases were used in the 80's too though, but not for the Vintage series.

It's not refinished or repaired body, since I open neck and check neckpocket and control cavity.

Here's neckpocket. And, you still can see the router hump.
Anyway feel so happy to get one Fullerton Reissue bass.

Seller doesn't know much bout this bass. His GF gave him and her late husband used to play for 2-3 weeks after purchased in 1983 and store in closet after then, as she said.
Most of all, great fret condition and looks like new :D

Where can I appraise this bass ?

any local vintage guitar dealer could appraise it for you. i've had a local guy write me a note of appraisal for insurance purposes....

either that, or you save the invoice from when you bought it.
