Comfort or feel is always important. The comfort allows you to play better and more confident. Would you rather play a guitar that looks good and feels weird or would you play a guitar that looks good and feels comfortable? So.. comfort is a key in guitars and the looks is a plus. If I were you, I would go to a music store somewhere near and try out between 2 or 4 guitars and see which one makes you feel comfortable in looks and feel. When I purchased my Fender bass.. it took me a while to get used to the bass. Take your time and find the one thats good for you.

Of course feel is important. Remember your Precision loves you. Fender basses look sexy and have the sound that's world famous. What's not to love?

Obviously, both are of paramount importance. However, I put feel as having the edge. The way I figure it, comfort and responsiveness is really what makes an instrument a joy and an inspiration to play. Now even if said instrument does indeed have 'that' feel yet it sound like out and out fecal matter, with all the great aftermarket stuff out there, sooner than later one will be able to get 'that' sound too without breaking the bank.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

Well said Martian, I use the SansAmp Bassdriver DI every time i play, no matter what, or where. It adds EVERYTHING to the sound.

I just commenced the buildup of a new bass because I realised I wanted it all! I wanted it to feel, sound and look good, and also be comfortable to play (light). I also wanted one that I thought was 'cool'. That may seem like a superficial requirement, but it's important to me! I think feel and tone are linked in a way. If you love playing a bass, it's way easier to get a good sound out of it than if it plays like a dog. I recently fitted up a beautiful playing old neck to a bass I already had. It instantly transformed it. It lost about a pound in weight, and gave it a beautiful warm and woody tone. I haven't stopped playing it in 3 days and my technique has gone through the roof!
