I just biught a brand new Fender P roadworn and got it yesterday, I really like the bass but the frets edges are really sharp, not like my squier, no my Lakland, in this bass you can really feel all frets down and up of the neck, I contact my dealer and they agreed to send me another bass thats another 10 days of waiting, I found that one luthier in my town is an authorized Fender repair center. Do you know if Fender cover this issue in the warranty, if so , Can I just take the bass to the luthier and he will fix it free of charge?

If the dealer that sold you the Bass is taking care of you by exchanging your current Bass for a new one, then that would be your warranty service. If you take it to another place to have it serviced, what about the new Bass that is coming in?

when I contact the dealer, AMS, I told them what the problem was, they sent me a shipping label and they told me that a new bass will be shipped. The bass now is packed and I will drop it at fedex tomorrow, the only other issue I found is a gap of .71mm in the neck pocket, I can easily fit two business card :|.

I really want to have a Precision RW so I hope next bass has not issues.

Often fret sprout is not a manufacturing problem but the result of a natural course of events. What happens is that in the time since the frets were set, filed and leveled the wood in the neck dried out a bit. This drying causes a little bit of shrinking of the wood. The frets however remain the same size resulting in what you perceive as sharp fret ends.

It is very common and most dealers remedy it during the pre-sale setup. When you mail order or online order, often the dealer never even cracks the box so you are getting the instrument just as it came from the factory.

This happens less frequently on higher end instruments since the wood used on them is often better aged in the first place, but it still happens sometimes. That is another reason buying in person is preferable whenever possible.

The very first Roadworns I checked out ALL had razor sharp "sprout". It was worse than the old Mexican basses I had. When I bought mine ( RW) which is a 2009 - it did not have it. It was new.
