about two weeks ago i got new strap locks, and now I have found out that the hole is stripped, as in I can pyush the screw in and pull it out. what is best to do? all I can think to do is bring it to my local guitar shop and have them either get bigger screws or drill a new hole and find out how not to do that again. Is there anything else I can do? maybe a warranty?

Try stuffing a toothpick or two in there. Some people put a few drops of glue in as well, but I've always had success with just toothpicks.

I'm a toothpick and glue guy. Gorilla Glue to be precise.

YUP - Thank goodness for round, wooden toothpicks and Elmer's Glue!! A guitarists best friend at times... not only to get the snacks out of your teeth BEFORE a gig, but to make sure the bass is strapped properly DURING the gig...

Gorilla Glue is great stuff, considering it was made to securely constrain gorillas, it had to be.

Glad to hear it worked out for you!

I don't know why no one else suggested this, but I'd use toothpick/s and wood glue (or Gorilla glue). Hee hee...

But seriously, I've used this method on all sorts of screw-in-wood-fixing projects. Squirt a little glue in the hole, put some on the toothpick/s, stuff the hole with the toothpick/s, allow the glue to set overnight (8-24 hours), cut off the end/s of the toothpick/s, and screw the screw back in by hand (no pilot hole necessary).

No-- I think the OP needs a longer sign in name. He must not have a job and lots of time on his hands to spend two minutes every time signing in. :D

My bridge/pickup covers have the classic stripped screws and toothpicks do the trick. But a straplock actually has significant weight on it, so I'd use the glue as well.

Weight isn't the issue. Sticks and glue, you'll do. It's one of those carpenter tricks that make life so much easier. Now if they could fix the input jack problem...

Your bass is broken and now useless.
Throw it away and get a kazoo.
Less parts that can break, and it is considerably smaller and lighter.
And chicks dig kazoo-players.

I usually put a little Gorilla Glue on a toothpick and stick it into the hole. Then I screw the strap lock in place. You have to careful not to use too much Gorilla Glue because it expands as it dries but it will never come loose again.
