I have been playing for more than 30 years. During that time, I have played 1970's, 1980's era Jazz and Precisions and many other basses. I currently own a 2011 American Jazz Deluxe which I love. It is much better than the G & L, Carvin, Music Man, Sadowsky, Spector and Alembics I have owned. Here is my problem. I also own a 2008 American Precision. The action is much higher than my Jazz bass and when I try to lower it, I get a lot of buzzing. The bass sounds great but I do not enjoy playing it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

That is a baffler. Lowering the action makes the pickups buzz? Did you try lowering the pickups? Really the proximity of the strings to the pickup should not make a hum. You may need professional help to fix your setup.

Are you possibly talking about FRET buzz?? ... where the string up scale of where you are fretting a string hits the top of another fret bar and vibrates against it? If that is what is happening, the neck truss rod can be adjusted CAREFULLY to level out the neck so this doesn't happen. If you have never adjusted a neck and bridge for proper fret to string spacing, consult with someone in your area who has. This is not a procedure for the un-trained.

However, if you are speaking of an ELECTRICAL buzz, then a pro tech evaluation might be in order, as Dave mentioned.

Good Luck and keep us posted.
