Hi, I'm trying to buy p bass from ebay-like web-site, but the owner seems to be newbie about basses. He can't tell exat serial number. All I managed to get from him were following numbers:
pat. 573.254 05.86.07
and
pat. 165.041
So could you help me to figure out what does it mean because it doesn't look like typical SN - one or a couple of letters + 5 or 6 digits.
Thank you.

the sunburst spray finish looks like an early Japanese '70 re-issue to me from the mid '80s...i had similar to that, but it was an early Tokai not Fender. So,judging from the photos i'd say 1985 Japanese, tho i could be wrong.

I have to say that i worked in a guitar shop for just over 10 yrs selling new and second hand Fenders,Gibson etc..I've seen 'em all,the rare, ultra rare, new and plenty of fakes...yes i've handled quite a few Fender fakes in the past (i even know a Luthier that makes "copies" of excellent quality but with no logos for copyright reasons,i bought a Jazz with no decal and it was superb).
For that price tag,it looks like a cheap copy...Allways buy second hand with caution.

yes, I was worrying about such a strange price, but when I phoned the owner, I understood that he knows almost nothing about musical instruments. That's why I try to find out - is this one fake or real and owner doesn't even know what he has

All Fenders, even the Chinese ones have a serial. If the seller can't find it then it is obviously fake or refinished. In either case DO NOT BUY it.

Any internet address with a suffix of .ru should set off alarm bells to you. The seller has a Russian domain and the number of scams run out of Russia and some other nations is a much higher ratio of scams to legitimate deals.

RUN [don't just walk] away!
