I've been a Jazz Bass person for many years and am going to make the change back. I started on a Precision in 1975 and changed to a Jazz around 1985 now I want to go back. I played this real nice 60th Anniversary P bass at the local dealer. I was amazed at the tone width the bass had. I was fighting with myself not to get it on the spot but had originally gone there to try out an American Vintage '57 P Bass in Blonde. The dealer told me he would call or to come back in a couple of weeks which I will do. Now all I have to do is decide 60th Anniversary or '57 P?

I'd get the Anniversary model over the 57 for several reasons. Among them: The unique look. This model is going to be more limited and therefore eventually appreciate more. The pickup is more versatile.

My personal preference is for the first generation control plate and pickguard design. The 57 has a lot going for it too but overall tone-wise is less versatile. The blonde 57 looks amazing though.

That 60th Anniversary P has a killer tone to it.The neck is definitely beefier. I'll give some time to get the '57 in.Of course someone could come in and grab the '60 Anniversary P then I am out of luck if I don't like the '57. Hmmmm...

I've always really liked the look of the '57, but I've never played one.

The 60th Anniversary sports a strong arm string retainer. It's also available in 2-colour sunburst.

Difficult choice, I prefer the vintage tones however the neck and versatility of the 60th is very attractive.
'57 for me I think.
