I'm not having much luck of late....

The chrome [plating on the top and back of the bridge on my cherished, much-loved and pristine MIA Standard today- quite spontaneously- peeled off.

It's now marked and rough in places, really obvious and 'yellow-ish'.

It's really quite upsetting.

Has this happened to anyone else?

What should I do? I moved home two months ago and I'm now 200 miles from the shop from whom I purchased it new in July 2010.

FENDER®
ELECTRIC INSTRUMENT
LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTY

Fender Musical Instruments Corporation (“FMIC”) warrants this Fender brand instrument to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for as long as it is owned by the original retail purchaser, except that pickups, switches, jacks, controls, all other electronic components, tuning machines, hardware, pickguards, plated surfaces, gig bags, cases and case hardware are warranted for a period of one (1) year from the date of original purchase.......

After reading that I would say that you are out of warranty. I would still contact Fender and see what they have to say. Hell it's worth a shot.

Good luck and I hope you get things worked out.

Shhhhh! Don't tell Fender....they'll charge EXTRA for unintentionally giving you "AUTOMATICALLY SELF-ROADWORN TREATMENT" hardware! Bridges are cheap. You can get a new one by mail for less than round trip gas to a service center.

How's this for first-class Customer Service...Immediate reply and immediate resolution.
Enough said: thank-you, Fender.

Hi Ian,

Thanks for sending in the pictures.

If the bass was 10 years old and had spent time out on the road, you would probably expect to see some wear and possibly rust on the metal parts. However, it shouldn’t come away like that in the first 18 months.

Do you have the receipt? If so, please scan a copy and send it over to me with your address. I’ll then send you a replacement bridge free of charge that you can get fitted locally.

I’m afraid I can’t offer an explanation as to why this has happened other than there must have been an issue in the plating on this particular bridge. Hopefully the new one should give you years of trouble free use.
