Can anyone tell me how to cut , shape ,channel and sand a bone nut for a Jazz width neck? Also I need to know what kind of files to use and where to get them in Illinois. How do I remove the old nut? Anyone know how to clean the glue out of the slot? Lay out string spacing? Rough in the slots? What do I use to polish the bone nut when I'm done? When do I glue in the nut? Do I really need to score the old nut along the edge of the slot an exacto knife before I remove it? Can I damage a rosewood board removing a nut? Is plastic better than brass or is brass better than bone for a nut? Thanks

oops I need to change one thing. I want to make the nut for a Precision bass not a Jazz, so I'm going to need all new measurements. Thanks for the help.

Thesae will work with either the Jazz or Precision nut. Just be careful with the beaver.

Stew Mac sells all the tools necessary and bone blanks. I'd stick to bone or plastic bone. Follow their directions. Have someone read them to you out loud. They also have pictures. It would be far cheaper to have a tech do this for you since they already have the tools. Order about 3 blanks, you'll mess up at least one.
