Again I find myself searching used basses for that natural finish p-bass. Don't get me wrong, I like my white Am. std. but natural finish ones always catch my eye. I have read alot of posts on here about them, my own included, and have gotten my hopes up over the speculation of the Blacktop and Pawnshop - now 70's P-Bass - series. I like the look of them, but not what I want. The Am. Deluxe is more than I need and the Tony Franklin is too pricey. I know you need choice body blanks in ash or alder to make them nice, which would add to the price, but i would pay more for an Am. std. or even a std. in naural finish. Anyone agree? Just venting I guess...now about a fretless p-bass.........

From my understanding you're looking for a natural ash P with an unlined fretless maple board just like Sting's original.

Did you also want putting a J pickup in the bridge for the best of both worlds?

I'm very sorry, Fender has no plans to reissue these CBS-era oldies. If you really want a bass like this, you might consider buying a used MIJ PB70-84US/FL or ordering one from the Custom Shop (beware: CS basses are extremely expensive.)

Might have to buy the body and the neck separately then put it together yourself (or get someone to do it for you).

Now this bass has a fretted post-2009 MIM Standard maple neck installed.

Ipdeluxe, your P-Bass in its present form is essentially a Natural FSR MIM Standard with a Duncan Basslines SPB-3 split pickup and a post-2009 MIM Standard maple neck.

Fender has never made a Natural FSR MIM Standard with such cool mods. Also, these basses were available only with a rosewood neck.
