My dad bought an old "supposedly fender" bass with a schecter neck on it. He only paid 40 bucks so it's no loss either way. The neck has fender tuning keys, and the neck plate has the F but no serial. The bridge is a schaller roller, so once more.. no serial. The neck has some serious ware, and the body has a vintage look. It's a natural ash finish.

The only number I found anywhere (and I have this thing completely apart) was a "0 4006" in the neck pocket. ANY idea what this thing may be? I have plans of refinishing it and possibly updating the electronics, depending on what it is.

thanks,
Matt

Also, something doesn't look quite right about the volume/tone pots. It looks like one might have been filled, and another added, or maybe moved? Also the back has a small black cover that was covering the wires, and I can't find a pickguard anywhere online that matches the 3 knob front plug with this pattern. Looks like it may just be a hodge podge of random parts with a fender looking body.

Anyways just thought I'd ad..

I have a bass with a body just like that. Sorry I don't have a picture. Mine has a P bass neck with no decal. The guy I got it from said it was from the 70's. An early P bass copy. My finish isn't quite as bad as yours and it has a big square bridge on it made from brass. I have the same fade on the finish as yours. He gave me the bass. It's not worth much.

Looks as if it might possibly a '79 or '80 body - If you have the chrome neck plate, Schecter stamped the serial number on that plate up to the time that the company was sold to a Texas investment group around 1983. The decal on the headstock does not seem to be one that I have seen before... most of their ID - even in the early years - was in a very different 'handwriting' type font style. Looks as if this might have been a pieced together project from someone because certain Fender necks will bolt right on to the early Schecter bodies. If you can identify any markings on the underside of the pickups, that would be helpful.

In the picture of the body--- the body looks like the one I have in that it appears to be slightly larger than a Fender body. I hope it is a schecter -- then I'd know what I have. I've had schecter before. They started as a parts/build your own and now that I'm thinking -- my other schecter (tele) was built in 82.
