Hello Fender fans... I'm new to the forum and not sure if there is any kind of 'forum etiquette' with regards questions as such so I'll get to the point. Can anyone let me know where (in London preferably) where I can find, buy, or have made a tort pickguard that will fit a classic vibe bass (Red)? Not any old replacement pickguard though... a 'proper' one – like they used to make in the 60s... WIDE bevelled 4 ply guard. Not those Fender reissues (for the 62), or standard replacement ones... if you look closely you will find that they are simply not wide enough in the bevel. IMHO a Precision, and a Jazz bass for that matter should have this style of guard AS STANDARD. There is a reason all those 60s basses look so good... it's the attention to detail... the little things... in this case a good bevel with lots of white in the tort pickguard. Have a quick Google to see what I mean... or am I the only one who notices? Thanks in advance for your help.

No you are not the only one who notices those things. The 60's tort is long gone. The company that made it is out of business and took the formulas with them. All you can get now is the 62 repro which as you pointed out, not much of a repro. Ed Roman in Las Vegas will make you one as close as possible if you have deep enough pockets. BUT the original material is simply not out there. Jenny Pickguards also had some material that was pretty close, but it was 3-ply, not 4.

For a list of all custom and stock pickguard people I know about, visit the link in my signature below, once that page loads scroll down and click on the RED link that says: REPLACEMENT/UPGRADE BASS PARTS. Once that page loads scroll down to the RED titled category labeled PICKGUARDS. Those are all the options I know about here in the USA. Sorry, but I don't know ANYTHING about any custom pickguard people in the UK. But with FEDEX OVERNIGHT you can get it done in a couple of weeks.

For a custom guard that actually fits, the best thing to do is send the original pickguard to the custom shop. The second best thing is to send an EXACT tracing. But the original guard is BEST. There is no way otherwise I'd expect that you'd get an exact fit on a Squier Classic Vibe. Good luck!
