I it possible to just remove the p bass neck from a p bass and attach a j bass neck, without any further adjustments to the body or added neck? I feel like i might want the p bass sound, but I don't want to have to deal with the thick neck.

Welcome.

The necks are interchangeable but the bass would have to be set up all over again.

Sure. People do it all the time. The CIJ/MIJ stuff doesn't play well with USA/MIM stuff but otherwise have at it, but at your own risk of course. I assume no liability.

Duck Dunn did this with his Candy Apple Red P-Bass onto which he put a 70's rosewood with lock inlays Jazz neck. It yielded the bass that inspired his signature Lakland model, which seems to now be discontinued.

It's all good.

It very east to mix and match you're favorite fender parts, but not usually between countries of origin.

That's why you have to disassemble a bass these days to know if your buying the real deal.

But yes, you can put a J neck on a P bass.
Ive done it my self with great results.
