I've played a bunch of recent maple board Jazz basses & sold them all. I prefer the wider neck of the P Bass, or so I thought. I purchased a 1972 Firemist Gold P bass with an "A" neck (an "A" neck is jazz sized). I love playing this bass! I don't know if it is the unbound board or the old finish. It feels better than the Jazz basses I have played & the sound is that P Basss growl that I prefer.

I'm still waiting for Fender to produce an American Standard P Bass with a Jazz neck. I like that Fender keeps introducing different guitars and basses (pawnshop, modern, vintage thinline tele) but is it that hard to just give me what I want...or let it be an option to have the Jazz neck on the P bass. MM has their SLO option on the Stingray which is the Sterling neck at 1.5" at the nut. Sorry, to rant....your bass sounds exactly like what I'm waiting for.

I'm dreaming of a 30.5" scale Pbass...

Here's my "A" neck P. The jazz neck isn't like a jazz it is unbound & has dots not blocks. It's jazz width at the nut. Oh yeah, it's Fire Mist Gold custom color too! Check it out! Image

You want a Jazz Bass Special.
I have an MIJ one.
Do a search of it, it's what you're asking for.

A necks are jazz width necks. so they are a Jazz neck with a P bass decal. My 74 P bass has an "A" neck. That's one model is was installed on--not sure of all the different years in the 70's that they put A necks on.

The Precision Bass Plus had a slim Jazz Bass neck with 22 frets. It even featured a Lace Sensor P/J configuration with a series/parallel switch for the neck pickup and the TBX tone pot. The Boner P-Bass used the same fine-tuner bridge found on the Elite I and II introduced in 1983. It was discontinued in 1993.

Fender offers the Deluxe Active P-Bass Special which sports a Jazz Bass neck with 20 frets; this huge-sounding hybrid also includes a dual-coil ceramic Jazz Bass pickup in the bridge and a 3-band active EQ powered by a 9V power supply.
