Hello,
I own a '69 P-Bass. Due to its age the potentiometers are failing, and the nut is cracked.
I want to change these parts but I do not want to ruin the bass in terms of sound and value.

Would you recommend the "vintage style wiring kit for P Bass" that is sold on basspartsresource.com when it comes to change the potentiometers?
or should I go for the "genuine fender" 250k pots that are sold separately?

I guess the best for the nut is to change it for a new genuine fender.

Thanks.

Vintage pots can often be repaired by a competent vintage restoration tech. This requires painstaking disassembly, which can usually be done without breaking the solder joints, then replacing the interior ceramic disc or other components and then reassembling. On the other hand it could be they just need the right contact cleaner applied by someone who knows what they are doing.

The nut however will of course need to be replaced. I'd find the BEST possibly vintage restoration tech in your area to do that too. The best people will do it so that nobody will ever know.

If you are concerned with long term collector value, especially on a Pre-CBS instrument, then don't so much as break a factory solder joint on the electronics UNLESS all other options have been exhausted. Once you break the factory solder joints then it doesn't matter if you use CTS or FENDER pots. I always check the solder joints myself before saying whether or not an instrument is original. The CTS and modern Fender pots are the same. So electronically, it really doesn't matter. Yes, 250K.
