I'm pretty new here also, but I've been reading the place for a little over a year now.

What's your price range?

What type of music do you play?

Who's bass sound(s) are you looking to get out of your P-bass?

Oh! And Nice to meet you.
A couple of months ago, about 10 people would have responded to you already... I guess they're all on vacation.

Hi PKBassman nice talking to you. I really am not that concerned on price. I like classic rock. Pink Floyd, The Who, Black Sabbath... and so on.
I listen to Roger Waters a lot in Pink Floyd. I have seen Waters uses a Fender Precision Bass. Nice sounds.
Nice to meet you too. I have been looking for a while at the Fender Forum before registering. I thought there were more people like you were saying. They could be back in school too. Thank you for your help. It is a tough decision. Fender has a lot of nice Precisions to choose from.

Welcome to the Forums both of you.

Fender has pretty much every price range covered, from the Squier CV and VM P-Basses all the way up to the American Deluxe and beyond. With a P-Bass, you can not go wrong. There is also a Roger Waters signature model, in case you did not know.
My suggestion to you is to go down to your local music stores, be it a Guitar Center or Sam Ash, or a "mom & pop" store. Get your hands on as many basses as you can and play around with them. What feels and sounds good to me , may not to you. Everyone is different, and every bass is different.

Hello Zod. Thank you for the welcome and the advice on the Precisions. I started looking at the Precisions listed here on the Fender Products. As I thought before I looked at the Precisions. Nice choices. I did see the Roger Waters Signature Precision Bass. That is a nice bass.

Hi Zod!
I've played the RWPB and it's pretty nice.
I I like the brass nut on it also.

I found it to be a little tinny though, so I I had one,
I'd probably put a set of good flatwounds on it.

Roger Waters, John Entwistle and Terry Butler all played P-basses at one time or another, so it looks like the P-bass might work pretty well for you.

Have you played with any yet?

I played a real nice American Special Precision. It sounded good. The salesman highly recommended it. I might go back to the store and put some money down on it if they haven't sold it by the time I get back there.

Since I'm too lazy to look it up, doesn't that have the active electronics?

Yes it does have active electronics. you have to pludg it into the amplifier. The salesman at Guitar Center showed me the playing of it.

Does it use a 9-volt battery?

All P-basses are considered to be electric, the ones that have active pickups use either 1 or 2 9-volt batteries and tend to have more than 2 knobs....

Other than the electronics, how did it feel to you?

I've had many of both and your right.
The style you play can somewhat determine the proper choice of electronics.

Yes. I looked at the amplifier. But the salesman said that a Blackstar would not be a good one for the American Special. It looked good there was a man playing one in the store when I was there looking at the American Special Precision.
