I was looking for some info on a Japanese bass yesterday and came across a whole line of Fender basses I have never even heard of before.
They are called "Fender Modern Player" basses, One version is a see-thru finished JAZZBASS,rosewood fretboard and with 2 musicmann Humbuckers where the jazzbass pickups would normally be,next is a Telecaster with the same H/H pickup design and a maple neck and one piece pickgaurd and finally is a Jaguar bass with the same H/H pickups BUT with a killer maple neck with blocks and bindings !
They were priced the same as the "Blacktop" series and may even be made in the same factory but thats where it ends,I am not a huge fan of any other double pickup combo's except a P/J set or a standard Jazzbass set, double H/H dont do it for me,especially two ORIGINAL Tele humbucker pickups, they must be muddy as all heck.
Type in the title exactly as I wrote it into Google, and it will show you a German music store in the first 1 or 2 listings, click on it and your there.

Musician's Friend has them listed as coming in Friday.
Oh, and considering, on the Tele bass, the bridge bucker is as close as you can get to the bridge, I would think that would offset any muddiness from the neck pickup. I have always thought I might get the Squier version, with the one pickup, but that I would have to add some sort of bridge p'up, and that kinda turned me off. Now with this new Tele bass I wouldn't need to do that. And, It also comes in Butterscotch! Full of win!

The prices even though in German denominations matched up to the pricing of the "Blacktop" series,I would def. go w/Telecaster bass but with 2 pickups I will not consider it,I will be forced to either buy a original tele or build one myself(but no matter how well its built its never quit the same as a production model  )
