I've been playing this p bass for several years, and when I bought it, the thumb rest, pickup cover, and bridge covers were missing. I was just wondering if it originally came with a white pickguard, or if there were color options. Serial # is S 9063##

The bass looks to be a 79 by its serial numbers(BTW NICE BASS!)the pickgaurd does'nt look to be original but you can check it by removing it,there is usually a sticker underneth it with the serial number on it(if it has'nt been removed).
I am not 100% sure but I think it would have been a mintgreen(aged looking more so than a minty color)or an off-white/egg-shell type color,I personally would do the black pickgaurd on the white bass w/maple neck motiff  ,that screams 70's.
I'm sure some of our older players here will have a more definitive answer for you,I cant say for sure though.
Goodluck

Thanks for the relpy! I personally like the black pickguard too.....that's what i've been using for quite a while. Here's a couple pics of the same bass with the black pickguard. First pic is onstage this summer opening for Kellie Pickler, and Gary Allan, and others are on same stage last year opening for Dierks Bentley.

I never considered the Mint Green possibility....but it sounds interesting. I'd love to see a pic if anyone has one!
I'd still like to find out if anyone knows for sure what it came with originally!

You can also look on e-bay for the exact year bass you have, look for one thats listed as "ALL ORIGINAL" and compare the pickgaurd colors to others that are listed as original, usually high feedback sellers are honest with the changes made on the basses they sell,so checking a few out listed as original pickgaurd will give you the best idea of what color was stock.
The post it up here and see what some of the fella's think, somebody will know!

Since your bass seems to be an American Standard, try this link for what you are looking for... (The "standard black" is listed here OR the "black pearl" type listed on this link page below might look good as well, if you might consider a slight non-stock variation.)

Please give us a photo of the finished product once you have it the way that you want it.
