My new 60th Anniv P bass apparently doesn't like my sweat or something - It's now got blotches of purple on it where my arm rests. I've emailed it to the guy at Sam Ash who is forwarding it to the techs at Fender to see what it is and if I can get it to come off. I've now taken to wearing a sock on my arm when I play to stop the sweating for damaging it further. Any interesting comments or discussions as to why it's done this on a 3 month old bass? Thanks.

I heard those Nitro finishes are having some issues - someone told me a guy laid something rubber next to his bass and it not only ate the finish but the wood as well OMG! I just don't want my wood to be damaged after only a few months of owning it - maybe 10-15 years down the road I wouldn't mind but this is a bit much lol.

You should sweat all over it to make it all purple and grainy. Nothin wrong with that.

Did you recently get a new tattoo on your inner forearm ? If your bass has a nitro finish, I'd try some naptha and see if it would clean off the purple. If it is a poly finish, I'd try naptha too, but if that doesn't cut it, try buffing it off with some 3M scratch remover....it's a paste similar to turtle wax that you put on and rub really hard, then buff off the white, dry residue....it works well for removing scratches :D maybe it will work as well for purples!!!!

You are going in the right direction talking to the dealer.

Is the body finished ? Its hard to tell anything from the pic but did you ever have on a new shirt maybe dark blue or black in color,I know its not the same but like when new shoes are worn the socks get the new shoe coloring on them or vice versa with new black socks etc....?
It is an odd situation, maybe your a Alien with purple sweat  LOL!! I would def have it looked at by a pro,Is it now,WAS it ever and what's it's finish if it is? thats the first question to begin with, then go forward from there.
GOODLUCK,this is a good one

Actually I hardly ever wear sleeves as I live in Florida so it's always a tank top kind of thing when I practice. I wipe my bass down faithfully after every practice and I polish it at least once ever 2 weeks (with Fender polish no less). The Sam Ash guy is sending my info to Fender techs to see. I am pretty sure my bass was finished as it was the new 60th Anniv P and I've only had it for about 3 months or so.

I just want to be sure that it won't start eating the wood or something down the road and my warranty on the wood will be kaput within another 9 months or so. I just can't believe it's already lost value due to sweat or some kind of chemical reaction!

I think the 60th P-Basses are blonde nitro.

I was trying to take better photos but accidentally hit my video to go on - so this may give you a better look - it's only about 6 second long and I have a good shot of my knee.

There is still a shine to the wood I assume the finish is still on there - it doesn't feel any different than the rest of the bass.

Heard back from the dealer yet? If you bought it locally I'd already have been back.

I watched the video like 5 times. I'm hopeful it is just in the clear coat.

A word to others checking this thread. Guitar Center has the Fender Instrument Care Kit by Meguiar’s on clearance and Musicians Friend has already discontinued offering it. If you want one of those it might be a good idea to get moving. MF cleared them out at $15 each, which was about half price.

The guy was out today at Sam Ash - I will call him again tomorrow and then again on Friday to see if they heard from the Fender experts. I was thinking - what happens if they tell me they need it shipped to fix it - I really don't relish laying out that amount of cash to ship it to the Fender factory. I'm with you Dave - here's hoping it's just on the topcoat and it can be removed!!!!

P.S. I found the Fender Instrument Kit for $24.99 at Elderly Instruments so I bought one - I'm sure I'll be needing it lol.
