I don't know why these English (AM or Brit) song titles sound so good in German. It just wouldn't work the same in Italian or Croatian

German is a heavy sounding language.
Just listen to Ramstein if you can handle it.
It's not pretty, but it sounds heavy and mean in German. :)

Rammstein - yes!

Rosenrot; Reise, Reise... far more scary and portentous than most things I can think of - or would want to

They night have been a bit better with a different vocalist. :)

The song I heard was called "Feuer Frei" I believe.
(It means fire freely.

It was those two songs, Rosenrot and Reise, Reise for me. Brilliant music, but chilling

I haven't had to hear Ramstein in about 5 years, but I only knew that one song. While it does have some pretty heavy if not simplistic music going on, I never imagined anything else they could do would be brilliant. I suppose I should delve deeper into them, but only if you tell me the 2 songs you mentioned are a bit less pedestrian than "Feuer Frei". :)

Well, they were - but these are murky waters, spiritually. The more power there is in music, I reckon, the more that matters. I can't listen long to such death-obsessed stuff, especially when it's all there, musically. <shudders>

I was only tortured by one song of theirs.
And now that my son is on his own, I dont have to listen to them anymore. I do remember that they were pretty heavy, but I had a hard time getting past their vocal.

And I think I know what you mean about the way good music can get into you but if its evil its not a good thing.

rammstein has kinda dubious past, in their beginning they were pretty close to rightwing- (not to say nazi-) rock which was aligned to "neue deutsche härte"*, -with upcoming rumors and reproach they apologized for and went kinda "dance-metal" rockstars...
(*go for wiki)

So I can feel justified not liking them because they were Nazis or because they went commercial. Either one is a good excuse in my book. :)

They had a heaviness I couldnt deny but the vocal was just awful!

If you want to sing like that, all you have to do is gargle with old razorblades for 6 months. :)
