I own a fender P-bass special deluxe and i had a pot go bad on me. Figures its the only part that is impossible to find. If anyone can help me out I would really appreciate it. I've checked everywhere. The fender part # is 0049443000. It is a 100k pot.

Specs: +/-12db @ 40Hz w/ 4db $@!&# per octave

Again if anyone can help me out I would really appreciate it. Thank you

Coreyw,

Is it the tone pot? The Fender parts list: http://www.fender.com/support/diagrams/ ... 62APg3.pdf

says it's a CTS B pot, meaning it's probably a linear taper type, rather than an audio taper that's used mostly in volume controls. The main thing is they're all very similar, some are sturdier than others, have different shafts, threaded bushing lenghts, etc. Check out: http://guitarpartsresource.com/electrical_ctspots.htm

and look at the pics and specs to see if there's one like yours there. Pay particular attention to the threaded bushings and shafts. Good luck!

Sorry, just checked, didn't see a 100k on the page. Any pot will work if the shaft, bushing size and value (100k) are the same. Go to mouser.com or digikey.com to find equivalent replacement parts. If you can find a physically similar one on the page point it out to me and I may be able to locate one.

hey i appreciate the help. I couldn't find what i was looking for. (I also didn't know what i was looking at haha) So right now myself and my bass are out of commission. One question though, what is the difference between an audio taper and a linear taper pot?

Simply put, a linear taper when turned 50% adjusts the resistance accordingly a corresponding 50%. Works the same for 25, 90, 100% depending on how much it's turned. Works great with tone controls because of its interaction with either a coil or capacitor.

An audio taper pot is logarithmic (non-linear) since the human ear hears volume in a non-linear fashion. What we perceive as twice as loud actually is actually a factor of ten, or 3dB. Thats why most volume controls are audio taper.

All that said, it really depends on the designer and the components he's using for his application.

If you can get any numbers off the pot, CTS is the manufacturer, we might be able to get info off their site. If you can post pics of it front and back with the knob off we should be able to find a replacement. 100k s are VERY common.

Teles Rock!

I am actually looking for the same pot for the same bass without much luck. The "Mid Boost/Cut" pot. My bass arrived brand new with the defective pot and I was told to take it to a shop. The shop says it would probably be 2 weeks. That's unacceptable so I'm trying to find the pot and replace it myself.

The pot also should have a center detent by the way.

I'll be sure to post when I find one.

I found them at this place:

You'll have to scroll down a bit.

Hope that helps!
