I am working on this bass solo from Salvation is Here , by Hillsong United. Solo starts shortly after 2:12:

I thought it was a sampler or something until I saw them play it and it showed the bassist doing it. Too fast for me at this time. I can do it about 10% slower than up to speed, but can't seem to get much faster.

Aw, man! I'm not sure I have that many neurons left to connect the dots. :( :)

Its a decent run but nothing earthshattering, the longer you play and PRACTICE and not sitting with the bass surfing the net,I mean real practicing you can get to and far past this level of playing, build them tendons with warm up stuff then increase the tempo gradually(gradually is important),the longer you warm up the better your dexterity develops and endurance falls right into place.

I'm sure there are as many practice techniques as there are people, but I'm going to ask anyway. This kid I took a couple of lessons from told me to put a sock between the strings and the fretboard, at the base of the neck, and just practice 8th notes & string skipping that way. This was on my 5-string non-Fender. The sock increased the tension of the strings, making it easier to play faster closer to the neck. I'm going to have to drag out a sock, and try that, see if it helps.

I agree the PRACTICE and work up to it approach is pretty much what it takes. Although sometimes my teacher pushes me to play something at speed even if I mess up. What I have found afterwards, is that I am actually better! I'm very careful, though, to not practice my mistakes.

Opinions? Other techniques that have helped you?
