I'm so jazzed! I FINALLY nailed the 16th notes on "I'll Take You There"!!!!!!!! Yeah, yeah, I know -- pretty small thing. But sometimes it's the little things that are the most wonderful. I've been working on that blasted song for over a year.

Next up, "I'm Tore Down" (Eric Clapton), with shuffle playing.

Glad I don't aspire to be a thrash metal bassist!

:D :D :D :D :D

So what song was a great challenge to you? What's your current challenge to master?

Those fingerpicked 16ths are no small feat, Slider. Easier in short bursts... but I still like to see how long I can match Rocco's 16ths on "What Is Hip?" before my heart or hands give out!

There are always a couple songs that prove to be a challenge, I know how it feels to nail one, good job! The accomplishment is it's own reward

For me the challenging stuff is the Steve Harris moving all over the fret board lines. But once I got the song down, the feeling is WOW. I've seen cover songs of Maiden, and it just absolutely bothers me knowing the bassist is just wingin' it... :x No pride...picking up a bass and playing root notes does not make one a bassist.

Hmmm. I might be looking for some long distance lessons on Maiden songs. Yeah, I'd like to rock those. Don't know if my digits on either hand will ever get close to being up to that. I suppose mebbe it's time to consider practicing with a pick. Although I've been contemplating the heresy of using more than just 2 fingers on my right hand.   Never made sense to me to limit yourself, and I have seen people play with 3 fingers. I just have to find a few more loose neurons to connect up to make that work. :D

One thing I learned in life(though not applied them them in all aspects)is" you get out of something exactly what you put in to to it" if Rocco can play "What is hip"? I am sure with proper practice you can to,maybe it will take longer than he,but possibly it may come quicker to you,one never knows till we try.
Everyone is able to learn but at different speeds which does'nt make you any less or more qualified as anyone else,I'm sure there's basslines you can play that some of our more exp. players will find challenging.(though not all will admit it)
I remember taking my first of 5 lessons on the bass and the teacher is by far the best bassist I have ever heard in person(I want to say"best ever period but...)and I had about a year under my belt playing by ear,I was waiting in the lesson room and warming up while he went to get on of his 20 or so cups a day of coffee and noticed he stopped outside the door to the lesson room, thinking he was fixing his shirt or whatever...?he finally came in and asked me to play a certain riff I was warming up with(I was'nt pulling ANY chops out while he was getting his java out of fear( :?:)of him hearing me "trying"to show off)I said no way in a nervous way and he said please play it again,"It sounded great and it had a nice groove" to it.
I learned alot that day,it put a diff perspective on what makes whom better than this next guy B.S.,I thought to my self"maybe I do have something to offer up" after all,you would be pleasently suprised to whom thinks your chops are good.

Don't feel bad about "What is Hip". When Bobby Vega sub'd for Rocco, Bobby said that he couldn't match Rocco, using his fingers so he used a pick.
