so im thinking about buying an american vintage series 62 p-bass. Im gonna buy it regardless, but i had a question about the bridge cover. when ive look at pictures online, all the pictures that are not stock pics show the bass without the covers, and when i look at it appears that there are no holes drilled for the bridge cover. Can anyone tell me about this? am i just not seeing the holes? or am i expected to drill the holes my self? (i may have more questions later, so thanks in advance :D)

Truthfully I myself look at a bass that has them and eye them up from there,Vintage re-issue's usually come with a templete to use for installation, some Re-issue's have the holes in the pickgaurd pre-drilled(not into the wood)should you not want to mount the covers.

So, I just picked up a 62 AVRI Precision - covers included, but not drilled. I've drilled the pickup cover, using the holes on the pickguard as a guide. If a template for bridge cover is included with the new reissue basses, it wasn't included with my used one.

Where can I find a bridge cover template for a p-bass? Thanks!

My 2006 Amervintage 61RI came with the holes in pguard, but not in wood.
No holes for the bridge cover. I drilled em and mounted em myself ... veeeerryyyyy carefully. Worked out great. No template included.

PS - although the holes were pre-drilled in my pguard for the pup guard, I still had to bend the cover, ever so gently, inward to make the holes line up. I read about another guy having to do this too.

Here it is:

I only use the bridge cover on p-basses which is'nt as large as a jazzbass, putting the covers(bridge or pickup)on a Jazzbass thats heavy already looks cool at first but lugging it around to either a gig, lessons ETC...was'nt enjoyable with the extra weight of the covers and its suprising how much they do add on a 11,12,or 13 lb bass,I'll pass.
I will say they look really cool and top off the vintage vibe really emulating the old CBS looking bass, other than the weight I would have them on all my Jazzbass's and actually did untill a few yrs ago when looking cool took a backseat to performance, like a awesome pair of shoes that killed your feet but we wore them anyway hopeing someone will notice and acknowledge or compliment you on them.

here's what i did because the guitar i put mine on was not a vintage reissue or anything

i took the cover set it where i wanted and that was with the back end of the bridge butted right up to the metal cover, i marked the holes, then drilled them, so in other words just use your cover as a template

PS- watch out for burs on the screwholes of the covers that can scratch the finish as you put it in place.
