Ever feel that way regarding instruments, like you're never satisfied with what you got and just gotta get what catches your eye?

I don't know about everyone else but I'm going through that phase now. 2 P-Basses, a third being built and an acoustic bass all at my disposal, and yet I constantly browse online (I live in the Middle East so the closest dealers here suck) for new gear and find myself wanting this and that, recently an American Deluxe P and a '95 Japanese Foto-Flame P-Bass. I even considered an American Standard P, Steve Harris P and a CS Pino P. I'm just never satisfied but can't justify having more P-Basses since mine all sound similar as I use flat wounds.

Share stories? Tips and whatnot are welcome too.

I think the "collectors" on this site feel the same. Sometimes it's just the hunt for the "Next" one that more enjoyable than acquiring it. The problem is usually cash on hand!

True, I guess so. Cash is an issue too, but I think trying to squeeze in another instrument is a bigger challenge, haha. :)

I have 2 Pbasses, a Bass VI, and an SG Bass. Just got a Mustang, but not sure if I will keep it.

Both Pbasses are in two of my fav finishes (blue flower and black). So, I can't think of a reason to get another Pbass, unless I see one at a pawn shop that says "Funk" on the neck butt. Ha ha!

I am only into Pbasses and SG type basses, so my taste is limited. If I got anyhting else, it would be a '61 RI EB3, if Gibson ever makes it.

Or, if Fender puts anything else out in Flower finish.

Otherwise, it would get redundant (OK, I might get a '62 RI Pbass in Sunburst one day).

But if I get too many, then I can't get down to some serious relicing on them as the play time would be spread too thinly.

Every time I think I'm done, another deal catches my eye or a friend offers a bass up to me...so yeah being in the Middle East probably gives you more GAS than usual :|

It can get frustrating and I know the feeling of finding something you want but don't see a reason owning. It just annoys me, that's all. If I ever did consider another P (or bass in general) it would have to be active. A little variety in my arsenal shouldn't hurt at all, especially as an active musician in my local scene.

Its not that bad really. When they do get some stuff, regardless of what type of Fender it is (they never bring basses, though) they tend to price them higher than what they're supposed to be, whether they're a Squier, MiM Fender or otherwise (we never get MiA Fenders here). Its much more convenient to order online as the prices are much fairer than what they would cost here. I remember once asking my local Fender dealer about the process of ordering a Custom Shop bass including the price, and they said it would be ridiculously higher than they're supposed to be due to customs over here.

Garf, are you an Expat over there or a Kuwaiti? If you don't mind me asking of course.

Just like Freddie Mercury, that is so cool.

Garf you have a common affliction known as G.A.S. (gear acquisition syndrome), very common to bass players, we all have it to some extent. I have three basses, a Fender precision, a Fender Jazz and a Squier VM Modified Jazz.

As in most incurable maladies, G.A.S. comes and goes. In my case I find that working overtime makes my G.A.S. real bad. At present I am on a loooooonnnnnng stretch of long days, all kinds of overtime, I can feel it coming.

Just accept it and try to live as normal as you can. You can always come here and let it all out.

Haha! Hardly Mercury, but thanks for the kind words sir. :P

Oh trust me, I'm well aware of G.A.S and I'll admit its a hazard to us bassists' healths. What can a guy so though? I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy what I have until I finally give in, even if this next one should be my last.

Like I said, it doesn't hurt to have a little variety on your arsenal, and all I'm missing is an Active P. Seriously considering the Deluxe Special P at some point.

GAS can be difficult if you are married. I have a friend who's gas with les pauls also ended up in divorce court. She found him selling "things" around the house to get more cash for his next "fix". The obcession can be like a drug without the side effects.
