I posted this hear cos I'm referring to a 62RI P-Bass that caught my eye but I wanted to see what people thought of these mid-90s MiJ models.

Obviously the foto finish doesn't affect the tone and whatnot but its definitely good for the looks if that's what one's looking for. Anybody have experience with one of these?

No experience with it, but if I'm able to get a chance to buy one right now, I probably would. I like the '80s to mid '90s MIJ basses. Great build quality, great playing basses (in my experience). Some have said the electronics aren't that great. My '89 J pup was low in output, and the bass was active electronic. The P pup was loud.

How sure are we that the foto flame does not effect the tone? What kind of wood is under the foto paper? How thick is the paper? Is it glued on? How do you know it's foto flame? Were foto flame bodies only made in Japan? I guess I have alot of questions.

Foto flames were short lived series. I think they were all made in Japan. The few I have seen all had a "fotoflame" logo on the back of the headstock.

Aaaah, they are gorgeous instruments. I'd feel bad for buying one just for the sake of looks though. Already got 4 Precisions. :(
