Hi Guys,

This is my first post on here as im a complete noob to bass playing - always fancied it, but just got round to it at 36.

Ive just bought a Precision Bass through a friend of mine who plays. Now ive not actually seen it but he reckons its a good buy. Its a colour that ive not seen before, kind of sunburst but brightish yellow. Its serial number is S007444.

Any info on it would be great, and ill post pics up tomorrow when i actually pick it up

Ta Muchos

Once you receive the guitar, use this link below for a quick check. Depending on whether your headstock has certain wording, it initially sounds as if it could be from either 1995 or 2005. Also, it looks as if it was manufactured in Japan by Fuji-Gen. These basses are very good quality and some, from the early 1980's have some collector interest.

Good luck on the research at >>> http://www.guitardaterproject.org/fender.aspx

The lad that is selling it has stopped playing bass and is playingmlead now in a different band and need a lead rig - have picked it up today and love it, will put a pic up later.

What wording should I be looking for to confirm more when it's from, and only put of interest if its worth more than I paid.

The Japanese made basses have two serial number and year possibilities. IF yours says ONLY "Made in Japan", then do not check the RIGHT box in the search block where it says "Crafted in Japan".

However, if yours says "Crafted in Japan" on the headstock, then check the right box in the search block where it says "Crafted in Japan." This will give you an accurate year. Once you know the proper year and can judge condition, then you can look up relative average values on eBay or other sources.

Hope to see photos soon...

I have a pic of that exact MM of yours Sabre- in a guitar price guide from 2002 or so. Sweet. That's the kind of MM I should have spent cash on- not the new ones. But I did end up with some excellent Fenders in trades. Oh Yeah.

You may even get 2000 for it but that's not enough. How about 10,000? Would you part with it for that? Sorry I'm broke!!!

RIGGER - What does it say on the headstock under the Fender logo...we can't quite make it out in the photo... I even tried expanding the photo in PhotoShop, but it started to pixelate and lost definition. If it simply says Precision Bass, then look on the rear of the headstock.

If it is a 1995 (Made in Japan) the color scheme was 3-Tone Sunburst with a really nice piece of custom wood. That might be Zebrawood; it's not Alder.

If it is a 2005 (Crafted in Japan) the color is still in production as Tobacco Sunburst but we still have to determine the wood and if it was a Fuji-gen custom order. I have personally not seen Zebrawood on a Japan made Fender, but anything is possible. This is a laminated body in your photo - the glue seam is visible in the center.

Ill add back pics tomorrow when im back from work. But from the serial number is definately a 95 one ( S007444 ). All it says under the headstock logo is precision bass. And the colour is a lot yellower that the pic shows - ill try and get a better iphone pic later

As i mentioned im a newbie player, but managed to learn the bass line to pick a part thats new by the stereophonics which i know is very basic but one of my faves - and it plays great, feels so easy even though im not that great. Ive had a pal of mine play it whos a great player, and it sounds mega.

I know im gonna need a better amp soon, but for the time being im using the bassman 59 on my ipad......can see this becoming addictive

Thanks for the additional pix. That confirms the vintage and it is refreshing to see a 16 year old bass in such good condition... The MIJ basses of that era are always a treasure to find because of their high quality.

Glad you found it!!!

I really have fallen for it already, can't play much at the min as I'm learning, but can't stop picking it up :-)

It does have some cracks in the laquer on the front but no dings or dents and the fretboard is immaculate.

Next question is have I paid over the odds for it, ive got it for £300 which I'm not too bothered about as I love it, but would be interested in a rough valuation
