I grew up listening to all types of music. I hit my teens around 1980 and was listening to the Police. I never realized the bass could be a focal point like the guitar. Then I really started paying attention to bass lines in music from the past. I always thought My Generation and The Real Me from the Who were cool, but then I really started listening to John Entwistle's, along with many other bassists parts, more closely. From then on I listened first to the music, then played it again listening to the bass parts. I was inspired and started right then. I think my first bass was an Ibanez Roadstar II. Have had many since then.

Playing Bass Guitar alone is theraputic. How well you play, lets you know how your day went.

Learning, or..playing along to a recording is an ego boost, when needed.

Playing in a cover band can also be a thrill, but becomes tiring, and unsatisfactory.

When your in an original band that you believe in...all is right in the world.

Playing bass is a major influence on how my day will go. It's therapy that allows me to control aggression and helps me to focus on what needs to be done.

And! It just feels good to be able to play long enogh th be satisfied that I;ve done something creative.

I play bass because it is the groove unit of the universe. It is the connecting pivot point between the purcussiveness of 'The Big Bang' and exquisite rhythmic divinity of the creator. The Fender Precision Electric Bass Guitar is the Dance King of the Cosmos. The Emperor of the Groove. I play bass because it's groovy, man. Plus it's cool. Ya Dig? Crazy!

Just for the record, Zamfir is from Ohio and loves chicken jokes.

Besides, Gheorghe Zamfir would own Kenny G in a MMA match!

I won't say you're wrong but, Kenny G. is a 4th. degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and he's on this season of Bully Beatdown. He's going to fight Bopy George.

Place your bets, but Angry Panda will not pleased and he wields a wicked bamboo club.

Zamfir issued a humiliating beat down and Atomic wedgie to Yanni. He'll do it to Kenny G.

Why do I play bass?.......Why Not?

You lock in with the drummer and help drive the beat....... you provide the groove so people can feel the song.......you lead the guitar players where they need to go.

IMHO..... a bass player is the most overlooked, under estimated player in the band. Have a great night and not many people notice. Have an off night and everyone notices.

I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm proud to be a bass player!

Exactltly right grh050, overlooked, under appreciated and snubbed. Good thing bass players are rational, sane, mature and introspective. We can handle these types of situations.

For all of the greatest songs out there, isn't it a coincidence that the bassist's were people like, Jamison, Radle, Dunn, Babbit, etc. How many people other than bassists actually knew their names?

So true. Not to mention Osborn, or a Carol with a last name of Kaye.
