I think the hardest part about choosing a P-Bass, is choosing a P-Bass. There's at least three different ones that I can think of that I want right now.

I started out on guitar but my band could never find a bass player. The other guitarist noticed that when I did an fills, they usually sounded like a bass line and suggested I try playing bass. I took his advice and found that playing bass came very naturally to me. That was 34 years ago and I have been playing ever since. I also play keys and still play guitar but bass is my primary instrument.

I was a lead guitarist back then for funk rock and rap metal band, well the reason I switched was the weird thing I noticed.. when I play the guitars, the next day my hand hurts, while the bass, I can play for hours and I'd feel fine..

also what triggered me to play bass was an old friend back in college... I never really liked it at first but then I was really impressed how he played...

two words GEEZER BUTLER... was trying to learn guitar way back in 1972, never really liked what most bands were playing... then I heard "Masters of Reality", been on Bass ever since!

personally I just dig the heaviness of it... and had it not been for Black Sabbath I would not be the music lover I am today.

 I've been asking myself the same damn question. Why, indeed!

To empty my bank account and put me in debt? That's not not the reason, but that is what's happened.

To play too loud and elicit the ire of my neighbors and get evicted? No, that's not the reason either, but that's what happened.

To have my spouse divorce me due to empty bank accounts; mounting debt, and eviction notices. No. That's definitely not the reason, but that is precisely what happened.

To get arrested and hauled off to jail for disturbing the peace. Nope, not the reason.

Because you MUST play bass? Because your bass tells you to?

To put the bassline in my originals when I record. For enjoyment and interest. I'm a guitarist by hobby but, I have an apptitude for bass. I think it is a great instrument. We need more bass players. I'm certain there are many other reasons.
